Congratulations to third grader Brantlee Goings, who earned a Book Vending Machine token for demonstrating exemplary STANG expectations through her classwork and showing stellar citizenship in the classroom!
Haunted House Writing in Third Grade!
Mather's third graders have been getting into the Halloween spirit while putting their creative writing skills to work!
Students created their own “In My Haunted House” pieces, using descriptive words, vivid details, and plenty of imagination to bring their spooky scenes to life. They then paired their writing with detailed haunted house illustrations-complete with ghosts, skeletons, creepy creatures, and other frightfully fun details!
Activities like this give students an opportunity to practice important writing skills while developing their voice, creativity, vocabulary, and ability to paint a picture with words.

Learning Is Sweet in Third Grade!
Mrs. Butler’s third graders put their math skills into action today with a hands-on division lesson using cookies!
Students practiced dividing cookies into equal groups, helping them see how division works in a fun and meaningful way. Hands-on learning experiences like this help students build a deeper understanding of math concepts while making learning memorable-and maybe a little delicious, too!

Mystery Science in 4th Grade!
Our 4th graders became geologists and fossil detectives as they explored the Colossal Canyon Mystery Science investigation!
Students examined fossils and different rock layers, using clues and evidence to think about what each layer can tell us about Earth’s past.
There was plenty of observing, questioning, investigating, and problem-solving happening as students worked to uncover the mysteries hidden beneath the surface!
🕸️SPIDER INVASION IN FIRST GRADE! 🕸️
We’re not sure exactly when it happened, but the spiders have officially taken over first grade this October!
They’re crawling through the classrooms, hanging around the walls, and multiplying by the day...
And things have gotten even stranger. If you look closely, it appears some of our first graders may have turned into spiders themselves!
No need to call pest control just yet - we think we’ll keep these creepy, crawly Mustangs around!

4th Grade Visits the Courthouse
Mather 4th graders had a great time learning about our local court system during their courthouse field trip! Students participated in a fun mock trial, asked thoughtful questions, and demonstrated some impressive civic thinking along the way. A special thank you to Judge Nebel and our community members for making this meaningful, hands-on learning experience possible. Much appreciation also goes to Ms. Martin for organizing this wonderful learning opportunity for our students!

Attention Students, Parents & Community: We are attempting again to reseal the parking lot at the middle/high school this Saturday evening through Tuesday morning. The parking lot will be closed starting at 5:30 pm on Saturday and will not reopen until before school on Tuesday morning. Any staff, students, or parents needing to access the school on Monday, will need to park or be dropped off at the American Legion and follow the sidewalk to the main entrance of the building. Thank you for your understanding.
Just a reminder that there is No School Monday, October 12th due to staff professional development!

Fire Safety Comes to Life at Mather!
Yesterday, our Mather students from Pre-K through 5th grade had an incredible opportunity to learn about fire prevention, fire safety, and the important work of our local firefighters!
Students were able to interact with firefighters, explore the fire trucks and equipment, and even meet Smokey Bear! Our kindergarten students also had the extra-special experience of visiting and touring the firehouse.
A huge THANK YOU to Mrs. Murk, our very own 1st grade teacher and firefighter, for organizing this meaningful experience for our students! We are also incredibly grateful to the entire Fire Department team for giving their time, sharing their knowledge, and creating such an engaging, hands-on learning experience.
Experiences like this make a lasting impact-helping our students learn important safety skills while building connections with the people who serve and protect our community.
Thank you for investing in our Mather Mustangs!

4th Grade Adventures on the Big Lake!
Our Mather 4th graders had an incredible opportunity to experience the beauty of our own backyard aboard a Pictured Rocks Cruise! Students spent the day exploring the stunning shoreline of Lake Superior and making memories with their classmates.
A very special THANK YOU to the Pictured Rocks Cruises family for generously donating this experience to all 4th grade students throughout Alger County. We are incredibly fortunate to have community partners who provide such meaningful opportunities for our students.
Thank you also to Mrs. Kelto, Ms. Martin, our staff, and volunteers who helped make this special day possible!
1st Grade Corn Maze Adventure!
Our 1st graders had a wonderful time exploring the corn maze this past Monday! It was a fun-filled day of adventure, learning, and making special memories with classmates.
