PUBLIC NOTICE – BOARD OF EDUCATION ELECTION
Munising Public Schools announces that three (3) Board of Education seats will be up for election during the November 3, 2026 Regular School Election.
Individuals interested in seeking election to the Board of Education may file as a candidate by submitting an Affidavit of Identity and Nominating Petition, or by paying the required $100 filing fee.
Candidate filing materials must be submitted no later than:
Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.
Filings must be submitted to the Alger County Clerk/Elections Coordinator in accordance with Michigan Election Law requirements.

Next week is the MHSAA required dead week for all school athletics. No open gyms, weight sessions, etc. can be held for any school athletic teams. Deep Blue Fitness Summer Training sessions will be held as normal. Have a great 4th of July!!

Congratulations to our Support Staff Member of the Year: Melissa Berube! Melissa was selected by her colleagues based on her hard work and dedication to Mather Elementary's special education department and school library. Although officially retired as a teacher, Melissa continues to be a vital part of the team at Mather developing literacy programming and helping mentor young teachers every day!

Congratulations to our 2025-26 Teacher of the Year: Jim Cotey! Jim was selected by his colleagues for the award after serving 28 years in public education at MPS where he has been a trusted teacher, coach, mentor and leader. He connects with students with ease, building great relationships with his calm demeanor and willingness to go above and beyond to help anyone who asks.

What an AMAZING Field Day at Mather Elementary!
Yesterday was filled with sunshine, smiles, laughter, teamwork, and lots of fun! Students enjoyed bounce houses, relay races, tug-of-war, frisbee toss, softball throw, obstacle courses, nature hikes, sidewalk chalk, gym games, water relays, and so much more.
A heartfelt thank you to our incredible staff, volunteers, parent volunteers, Junior NHS students, and community partners who helped make the day such a success. Your time, energy, and support created lasting memories for our students.
A special shout-out to Peoples State Bank and their amazing volunteers for generously providing hot dogs, chips, and water for all of our elementary students, staff and volunteers. Your support, kindness, and willingness to give back to our school community helped make the day even more special. We are so grateful for your partnership and commitment to our students!
Thank you to our Mather Mustangs for demonstrating great sportsmanship, teamwork, kindness, and STANG pride throughout the day. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day to celebrate another wonderful school year together!

Final exams start tomorrow for our high school students. High school students who do not have to take their 6th hour exam will be allowed to leave at 12:56 pm tomorrow and only need to attend school during their required exams. Please see the schedule for more information!

MPS TRANSPORTATION NOTICE - FRIDAY 5/29/26 - PM RUN - This afternoon we will be operating with 3 buses due to a planned driver absence. Shingleton area and the tail end of the Frog Bus route can expect delayed drop offs possibly 30 minutes, or a little longer depending on the number of riders. See the revised routes below.

Mrs. VanBuren’s Kindergarten Class is Glowing Into 1st Grade!
Students in Mrs. VanBuren’s class had a glowing good time with fun and engaging end-of-year learning centers! Activities included bowling subtraction, writing to 100, sight word hunts, mazes, artwork, movement breaks with glow sticks, and lots of giggles and smiles along the way.
What a fun way to celebrate all of the learning, growth, and hard work this year. These Kindergarten Mustangs are ready to shine in 1st grade!

Congratulations to our Skyline Central Conference Softball Award Winners!!

Save the date!! We would love to share with you our musical rendition of what happens when the tornado comes back and sweeps Dorothy and her friends off to Wonderland. This play has a run time of about 90 minutes and is fun for all ages. Come join us and see some of your favorite characters from both stories June 10th & 11th at 6:00 PM! Admission is by donation and all proceeds support the performances of the Drama Club.
