Congratulations to the Class of 2025! Help us celebrate our seniors as we honor them with a senior spotlight! Callie is the daughter of Cassie Steinhoff and Scott Britton.  During Callie’s high school years, she has been involved in volleyball, tennis, basketball, track, cross country, and Key Club. She has received recognition for being on Munising’s Honor Roll and for winning a district championship for basketball. Callie’s favorite memories are the festive homecoming weeks and assemblies. With her bright future, she intends to attend Central Michigan University for criminal justice.

Dayne, daughter of Bryan Behning, has been involved in numerous extracurriculars: Key Club, Student Council, National Honor Society, tennis, track, yearbook, Youth in Government, cross country, volleyball, and basketball. While being heavily involved in her activities, she has earned recognition for 6 All-Conference awards for numerous sports, and All UP awards while being captain of four sports, Girls All State Runner and Team UP Champs, and UP runner up for 300m hurdles. As for academics Dayne has been on Munising’s Honor Roll all four years, and she has maintained a 4.0 GPA. Dayne’s favorite memory is any time she won in sports. She plans to attend Baker College to pursue a degree in veterinary technology.  Dayne also received elite recognition for being awarded the MHSAA Scholar-Athlete Award at the Breslin Center.

Just a Reminder: Mather Elementary Celebrates National Poetry Month We’re thrilled to announce that we’re partnering with Ana Dolaskie to host a Family Engagement Poetry Night at Gallery Coffee this Friday, April 25th from 5:30–7:00 PM! Students from Mather Elementary (Grades K–5) will take the stage to share their voices—performing original poems they’ve created in school or reading favorite published pieces. It’s a warm, welcoming event that celebrates creativity, confidence, and student expression. Our students have been practicing throughout the month in celebration of National Poetry Month, and we’re so proud of their courage and creativity. Community and family support is essential—please join us to cheer them on! Your presence helps reinforce the value of their voices and the power of their words. Let’s come together for a night of connection, inspiration, and celebration!

SCHOOL BUS DRIVER APPRECIATION DAY - TUESDAY, APRIL 22ND, 2025 Please join Munising Public Schools in honoring and celebrating our 5 dedicated Bus Drivers including Rick Stephens, Bill LeVeque, Kevin Westcomb, Jeff Meyer, and Dawn Kleinhenz. We appreciate that they endure early mornings, late evenings, rough roads, and challenging weather conditions to list a few. Please thank your child's bus driver! Each year School Bus Driver Appreciation Day falls on the fourth Tuesday in April. Today, we are recognizing all school bus drivers for taking care of our precious cargo during the school year. Whether they are transporting our kids to school, home, activities, or to sporting events, school bus drivers deserve recognition for the job they do. School bus drivers play an important role in the education of our children. Bus drivers are the person who ensures their safety each time they step on the bus. On School Bus Driver Appreciation Day we send our appreciation and support for bus drivers everywhere and thank them for taking care of our children.

Munising Middle-High School’s Natural Resource class has been awarded a $5,000 grant to support a project that will bring more local food into the lunch room. After meeting with farmers and food service to better understand their local food system, students designed a project that would implement a salad bar in their lunch room while also repairing and improving their hoop house. Congratulations Mrs. Ludecke and students!

Extra Recess = Extra Awesome! Congratulations to our Gold Card Honorees who earned extra recess for showing outstanding behavior and leadership! Way to go, Charlotte Niven, Jack Conklin, Breckin Rautanen, Ari Uehlein, Jordan Oas, Evin Klich, and Ada Bowerman—your hard work and positive choices have not gone unnoticed! A special shout-out to our Lunchroom Leaders in 2nd and 3rd grade who earned extra recess for their exemplary lunchroom conduct: Salvatore LaBarbera III, Joseph Palomaki, and Skye Scheid—you are setting the bar high! Keep up the great work, Mather Mustangs!

End-of-Day Smiles at Mather! Our kindergarteners are all lined up and ready to roll after a great day of learning and play! There’s something extra sweet about those end-of-day moments while waiting for the bus with big smiles and even bigger backpacks.

MPS TRANSPORTATION UPDATE FOR FRIDAY, APRIL 18, 2025: Due to being short a driver tomorrow (4/18). The district will be running 4 Bus Routes. The routes are pictured below and can be found in the Live Feed section of the district website. Pick-up and Drop-off times could vary 10-20 minutes earlier/later than usual especially toward the end of routes. Delays of up to 20 minutes can be expected for stops in Wetmore, Alger Heights, and within city limits.

Preschoolers @ Mather practiced fine motor skills as they opened and closed eggs and filled them with different items trying to get their egg to sink. Science discussion about what they were observing and testing was also a part of the activity.

"The Munising Youth Wrestling Team has competed in 9 Youth Wrestling Tournaments, had several exhibition matches at our Varsity Wrestling home meet, and practice at least two days a week this season. Several Youth Wrestlers have been recognized as Mather Student of the week, inducted into the National Junior Honor Society, and have completed volunteer work in the community. These Youth Wrestlers range in age from 5 to 14 years old. They have bonded over a sport and have become friends and brothers and sisters from love." Last weekend the Munising Youth Wrestling Team had 14 wrestlers compete in Manistique for the last tournament of the season.
