IMPORTANT MPS TRANSPORTATION UPDATE - TUESDAY, JAN. 2, 2024
Beginning next week (January 8th) there will be some changes to our bus routing, including pick-up and drop-off times for at least a few days. More information with specific details will be shared later this week on Thursday or Friday. These changes are necessary because one of our drivers resigned on December 22nd and another one of our drivers just experienced a death in the family and will likely be out of state for several days next week. Our thoughts and prayer's are with her. The district is currently down to 4 regular route bus drivers and we currently operate 4 daily AM and PM bus runs. In the event that one of our 4 remaining bus drivers is ill or cannot drive for some other reason, it will result in changes to both pick-up and drop-off times and may mean that the district needs to temporarily suspend transportation to some families in town and nearest to the school buildings until we have at least 4 drivers. Bus transportation for athletic events will not be possible in some cases for the rest of this week and next due to temporary driver absence. Coaches and sports teams are using the two school passenger vans to assist in transporting student-athletes. If you have questions regarding availability of athletic transportation for specific events, please contact AD Lasak. We are currently exploring all routing options to alleviate the issues resulting from driver shortage, including the possibility of establishing some common multiple rider stops. We have a current employee who is striving to obtain his CDL license so we can hopefully add a driver to our ranks soon. We are also working very hard to find and attract drivers. If you are aware of anyone with the appropriate licensure or the willingness to obtain it at the district's expense, please have them contact Superintendent Travis at mike.travis@mps-up.com regarding part or full-time employment opportunities. Otherwise, general transportation questions can be directed to Bus Driver Coordinator, Rick Stephens at rick.stephens@mps-up.com.

Congratulations to Addie Bowerman!

MUNISING PUBLIC SCHOOLS - This is our community's most precious commodity! This year's elementary holiday concert was the best yet in recent memory. Pictured here are the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students singing seasonal tunes. Principal Tweedale will likely share more pics soon. Great job students, Mrs. Gaunt, Mrs. Petersen, and Mather Staff! We have much to be thankful for :-)

Help us Stuff a Goose in partnership with the Michigan State Police. Students and visitors can bring in non-perishable food items to both school buildings drop off locations now through December 22nd. A MSP trooper will be arrive on December 22nd so that the students can "stuff the goose" with the donated items. All donations will go to the Alger County Food Pantry.

MPS Transportation Update: Monday, December 4th - Due to ongoing bus driver shortages, the district will remain at 4 bus routes until further notice and possibly through the remainder of the school year. Our apologies if the Oct. 19th message led to any confusion or assumptions about increasing the number of routes or to issues with pick up this morning. Again, we are remaining at 4 routes until further notice and a note to this effect will go home with all riders this afternoon.
