Impromptu 4th Grade Adventure!
Friday, November 7
Mrs. Kelto’s and Mrs. Martin’s 4th graders had an unexpected and unforgettable learning experience this past Friday! Our students took a quick impromptu field trip to watch a Great Lakes freighter in action — a perfect real-world connection to their studies on Michigan, shipping, and the maritime industry.
The excitement was high as students observed the size, power, and operations of a working freighter up close. What an amazing opportunity to connect classroom learning with the incredible natural and economic resources right here in our community!

Halloween at Mather Elementary!
What a spooktacular day! The weather held out perfectly for our Halloween Parade, and we couldn’t have asked for a better morning. A huge thank you to Mrs. Gaunt and the 8th Grade Band for their phenomenal performance—their festive tunes were the perfect treat after students had showed off their creative costumes!
Our 1st and 2nd graders brought extra smiles to the community with a special visit to the Manor, where they shared Halloween cheer with residents.
Throughout the day, classrooms were filled with laughter, crafts, games, and plenty of treats. And of course—the Minions (and Gru!) seemed to invade Mather with mischief and fun!
Thank you to our staff, families, and volunteers for making today’s celebration so memorable. Our Mustangs sure know how to make Halloween a treat!
Remember to Stay Safe while Trick or Treating tonight!!

Thank You, Munising Rotary Club!
We are incredibly grateful to the Munising Rotary Club for their generous donation of document cameras to Mather Elementary! These tools are already making a big impact in our classrooms — helping students share their thinking, explain their work, and learn from one another.
Our 4th graders are pictured here using the document camera to demonstrate their math assignments and explain how they solved their problems.

🎃 Mather Elementary Halloween Parade – Friday, October 31st 🎃
We’re excited to celebrate Halloween with our annual Mather Elementary Parade on Friday, October 31st at 8:45 a.m.! Families are warmly invited to come and enjoy the fun as our students show off their costumes.
This year, we’re lucky to have Mrs. Gaunt and the 8th Grade Band joining us to perform some festive Halloween favorites as the parade begins!
Parade Route:
Students will exit through the front doors of Mather, beginning with kindergarteners at the front of the line. The parade will turn right along the sidewalks, travel around the Mather block, and re-enter through the bus doors at the end of the route.
Family Viewing Guidelines:
To help us keep everyone safe and the route clear for our 288 students, we ask that families:
Please stay on the sidewalks across the street from Mather during the parade.
Do not cross the street or enter the sidewalks immediately surrounding Mather and Central.
Cheer, wave, and enjoy the parade from a safe distance!
Costume Guidelines:
Costumes should be school-appropriate—no weapons, violent or frightening characters, or unsafe props.
Students should be able to move comfortably and safely in their costumes.
Costumes should be worn to school in the morning; no makeup or costume applications will occur during the day.
Weather Note:
The parade will be held weather permitting. If we need to adjust plans due to weather, we’ll communicate alternate arrangements in advance.
We appreciate your help in making this a safe, fun, and memorable celebration for all of our Mather students! Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
👻 We can’t wait to see everyone’s creative costumes and smiling faces! 👻
