Congratulations to the Class of 2025! Help us celebrate our seniors as we honor them with a senior spotlight! Ian Thompson is the son of Gher Thompson and Michelle Laudon. Ian was very active in Student Council during his senior year. His favorite memories of high school were of science camp and of challenging Axl Richards in wrestling. Thompson plans to become a mechanic or a teacher, but has no firm plans to attend college at this time.

Cadence, daughter of Amber and George Schultz, has plans to attend college to pursue a career in nursing. Cadence has been successful throughout high school as shown by being on the Honor Roll for all four years, and she has been actively involved in the yearbook and golf. Schultz loved her time being an intern her senior year at Munising Memorial Hospital and helping the little ones at Mather Elementary. Cadence’s most fond memories are of all the homecoming events, holiday activities, and the numerous snow days this season. Her college choice is Northern Michigan University..

NOTICE: 22ND ANNUAL ROTARY SUNSET CRUISE AROUND GRAND ISLAND - MONDAY JULY 28TH - GET TICKETS NOW TO SUPPORT YOUTH GRANTS IN OUR COMMUNITY AND ENJOY AN EVENING ON THE WATER! It is that time again and the Munising Rotary Club will host their 22nd Annual Rotary Sunset Cruise around Grand Island. This cruise is one of our major fundraisers for our small club. Like last year, the local Kiwanis Club is joining in on the fundraiser. This year’s event will be held on Monday, July 28th and will be held on the glass-bottomed vessel Shipwreck Express which seats 149 passengers. Riders should arrive at the Shipwreck Tour dock in Munising at approximately 6:15pm as the boat will depart promptly at 6:30pm. The Shipwreck Express will view the sunken shipwreck Bermuda in Murray Bay and then make the 30-mile tour around scenic Grand Island. The island’s sandstone cliffs followed by a spectacular sunset reflecting on Lake Superior will be highlighted, and the cruise will return shortly before 10:00pm. Pre-wrapped snacks will be provided and bottled water will be available for purchase. Passengers may carry their own personal beverages as well. Out-of-towners should dine at one of the various Munising eateries prior to boarding. A warm fleece-lined jacket or windbreaker is highly recommended while boating on cool Lake Superior waters. All proceeds are used to support area youth in our local area. All tickets are $50 each and are only available from the https://shipwrecktours.com website. Once on the site, click Schedule/Rates, slide down to "buy tickets now”, on July 28, and register either on “Rotary Club Fundraiser” (100 seats) or “Kiwanis Club Fundraiser” (40 seats). Both sites will then request your credit card information. It is advisable to book early to save your seats. Due to forecasted cold and windy conditions, Saturday's graduation ceremony has been moved to the Munising High School gym.

Munising Public Schools will be running with only three buses today due to an additional driver call-in. As a result, families should expect delays of up to 30 minutes in the Shingleton, Wetmore, and in-town areas. We understand this may cause inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work to transport all students safely and as efficiently as possible. Please plan for adjusted pick-up and drop-off times, and remind students to dress appropriately in case of longer wait times. We will share updates if anything changes. Tessa, daughter of Christi and Kevin Salo, has been an active member of her school and community. She has been involved in Munising’s Chapter of the National Honors Society, student council, Key Club, the yearbook, Youth in Government, tennis, basketball, track, and golf. While participating in these activities, Tessa has been recognized for awards such as tennis All-UP Honorable Mention, basketball district champions, track and field regional champions, Key Club board director, various academic achievement awards, a 2025 Senior Scholar, and is in the Top 5% of her class. Through her notable experiences, Tessa’s favorite memory is Gaylord basketball camps. Tessa plans on attending Michigan State University to pursue a degree in business.

Michael Junior has been active in hockey, golf, tennis, and Youth in Government. His favorite memory from high school was when Munising won the state championship in basketball. Michael plans to complete his certification in HVAC through the Jacobetti Center at Northern Michigan University.

Congratulations to the Class of 2025! Help us celebrate our seniors as we honor them with a senior spotlight! Axl Richards is the son of Kylene Nelson and Randy Nelson. Axl enjoyed his senior year while being on the wrestling team. He has fond memories of assemblies and school events which he often was instrumental in since he is both senior class president and president of the student council. He plans to go into the Marines.

Congratulations to the Class of 2025! Help us celebrate our seniors as we honor them with a senior spotlight! Marqese Gardner is the son of Haylee Webb and Maurice Gardner. Although he had a brief stint here at Munising High School, his quick wit and quicker keyboarding skills were much appreciated by his teachers. Marqese plans to take a year off to save money but plans to attend NWTC in Green Bay, WI next fall to pursue a degree in video game design. Marqese was highly involved in robotics in his prior school. He also had a penchant for poetry. Marqese is a huge help to his mom and younger brothers.

We are proud to recognize Bently Bublitz as our Student of the Week! Bently is the son of Jennifer and Daniel. Bently is a kind and hardworking 4th grader in Mrs. Kelto's class who consistently goes above and beyond to lend a helping hand wherever it's needed. His willingness to volunteer and support others sets a wonderful example for his classmates. Outside of school, he enjoys playing hockey, riding bikes, and spending time with his friends. Bently's positive attitude, dedication, and generosity make him a valued member of the Mather Elementary community. Way to go, Bently — we are so proud of you!

Brody Gariepy is the son of Victoria Tannehill and Patrick Gariepy.  Brody has fond memories of hanging out with his buddies during high school.  Brody was very active in hockey and played for a Junior League team for two years.  Post high school, Brody will gradually take the lead in one or more of the family businesses.

Matthew has been involved in numerous sports and activities, primarily wrestling, baseball, Key Club, and Youth In Government. Matthew has fond memories of playing baseball over his high school career. Pokela has plans to attend Northern Michigan University for a construction management degree.

Trevin Perry, son of Tim and Jen Perry, enjoyed his sophomore year the most, especially while doing the campus tour at Northern Michigan University. Trevin earned various academic and attendance awards over his high school career. Trevin plans to enter the workforce immediately after graduation.

Congratulations to the Class of 2025! Help us celebrate our seniors as we honor them with a senior spotlight! Nathan Petersen is the son of Elisheba and James Petersen. As a devoted family member, Nathan has decided to joining the Coast Guard. Petersen has been often seen on stage during drama club productions, an Honor Roll designee, and a robotics team captain. Nate’s plan after serving in the Coast Guard includes entering the field of prosthetics and orthotics.
