MPS PUBLIC NOTICE - JUNE 7, 2023 MATHER ELEMENTARY PLAYGROUND DECONSTRUCTION & CONSTRUCTION Hello Everyone, Summer is almost here and we have some exciting news for you regarding the deconstruction and construction of the Mather Playground. First, another thank you to all of our amazing community donors and a huge thank you to Will Balko of Balko Construction and Stan Gerou of Gerou Excavating (and their crews) for donating their time, labor, equipment, and expertise in helping to bring the vision of a new playground for our school and community to fruition. THE MATHER PLAYGROUND WILL BE CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC FOR ALL RECREATIONAL PURPOSES FROM MONDAY, JUNE 19TH THROUGH FRIDAY, JUNE 30TH. It will also be closed for a period of time in August when the new equipment is being assembled and installed. Mike Albright (MPS Maintenance/Custodial/Grounds Supervisor) will establish a safety perimeter with caution tape and barricades early on the morning of June 19th. Timeline of Project Events: June 19-22; Balko's Crew will deconstruct the old wooden structure. June 23; Lumber and components from the old structure will tentatively be made available for free to the public. There will be specific procedures and times for retrieval communicated at a later point. Those individuals that are interested in some of these materials should contact Mike Albright at michael.albright@mps-up.com before June 23rd. June 26-30; Gerou's Crew will remove any remaining posts and cement footings, dispose of all remaining pieces of the old structure, and complete the grading and site work needed for the installation of the new equipment. August 3; The new equipment is slated for delivery at MPS. The bus parking lot will be used for staging and equipment preparation. Doug Smith of Penchura (and crew) will communicate the specific dates, times, and details for installation in August and those will be communicated to the public at a later time. Doug advises that his crew will be able to assemble everything before the end of August so that the new playground is ready for the school children and community when school starts in early September. MPS TRANSPORTATION UPDATE 5.25.23 Due to a sports run and driver illness, here are the bus changes for this afternoon. Bus# 5 (Frog bus) will be replaced by Bus #9B this afternoon. Students from Bus #2 (Dino bus) will need to ride Bus #10 (Turtle bus) home this afternoon.

MPS TRANSPORTATION UPDATE - MAY 23, 2023 This afternoon we will be combining runs due to having 2 bus drivers off. All of the students that normally ride bus #2 (Dino) will need to ride Bus #10 (Turtle) home this afternoon. We are desperately in need of hiring a bus driver. The district will pay for the required training and licensure, as well as the hourly rate of $18.68 during training and travel costs including mileage, meals, and lodging if necessary. Please respond to the posting if you have interest in joining the Mustang Team!

MPS TRANSPORTATION UPDATE - Friday 5.19.23 Bus changes for this afternoon due to an out of town sports trip. We will be combining bus runs for #10 & #2. So students that normally ride Bus #10 (Turtle bus) will need to ride Bus #2 (Dino bus) home this afternoon. Also, Bus #6 (Deer bus) will be replaced this afternoon by sub bus #9B. Also thank you again to Bill Valima, Craig Anderson and our friends at Superior Central Schools for loaning us a school bus this week as three buses in our aging fleet are in Escanaba for repairs.

MPS SCHOOL CALENDAR UPDATE - 5.17.23 Great News! MDE Approved our Forgiven Time Waiver Request The last day of school for students will be a 1/2 day on Friday, June 9th. Teachers will have professional development in the afternoon on June 9th.

MUNISING PUBLIC SCHOOLS NOTICE OF CITY ORDINANCE NO. 2015-01 OPERATION OF SNOWMOBILES & OFF-ROAD VEHICLES: The Munising Police Department brought to our attention Section 3 of this ordinance which notes that "Operation of snowmobiles or ORV's in the City of Munising are for the purposes of accessing designated snowmobile/ORV operating areas, from locations in the City, and returning from those places to locations in the City..." Therefore we ask that students and other citizens abide by this ordinance and refrain from driving these vehicles to and from school and being present on school grounds with these vehicles. The MUPD and MPS appreciates your cooperation in this matter and believes that abiding by this ordinance will also increase student safety and safety for all city residents.

The May Pony Express has been updated! We had to make slight changes to the Spring Concert as well as the Mather Spelling Bee!
