MPS TRANSPORTATION UPDATE - MONDAY, JAN. 8, 2024 As a result of reducing to 3 runs for today, tomorrow, and Wednesday, the buses were running (late) behind the normal schedule by between 5 and 15 minutes at some stops. The stops at the beginning of the routes were mostly on time. However, due to an increased number of stops, those stops in the middle of the routes were 5-10 minutes behind, and those at the ends of each route may have been as much as 15 minutes behind. The drivers will do their best to improve this for tomorrow and Wednesday. Please know that any students that arrive to school late due to a late bus will be given amnesty. There will be no academic penalty or consequence as a result of tardiness to class due to a late bus. Unless otherwise communicated, we will be returning to 4 Bus Routes on Thursday, January 11th. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we struggle with a bus driver shortage. Please contact Bus Driver Coordinator, Rick Stephens for routing questions at rick.stephens@mps-up.com or at 906-450-4379. FROM JAN. 4 NOTICE: The adjustments to down to 3 routes are listed below: Bus 7 (Frog): Driver Rick Stevens will run his normal route, but will also be picking up the following portions of the Bus 10 (Dino) route - Connors Rd to Lehnen Rd; Lehnen Rd to Alger Hts.; The alley behind the Am. Legion. Bus 10 (Dino): Driver Terry Bower will continue portions of his normal route not mentioned above. He will also assume the Bus 3 (Bear) route starting on Percy Rd and continuing to Indiantown Rd, Carmody Rd, Hilltop Rd, Connors Rd to Miller Rd, and back to Cox Addition. Bus 9A (Camel): Driver Bill LeVeque will drive his normal route. There are no changes. For the dates of January 8, 9, and 10 there will be NO BUS SERVICE to Clear Lake, Powell Lake, and Sand Point.

IMPORTANT MPS TRANSPORTATION UPDATE - TUESDAY, JAN. 2, 2024 Beginning next week (January 8th) there will be some changes to our bus routing, including pick-up and drop-off times for at least a few days. More information with specific details will be shared later this week on Thursday or Friday. These changes are necessary because one of our drivers resigned on December 22nd and another one of our drivers just experienced a death in the family and will likely be out of state for several days next week. Our thoughts and prayer's are with her. The district is currently down to 4 regular route bus drivers and we currently operate 4 daily AM and PM bus runs. In the event that one of our 4 remaining bus drivers is ill or cannot drive for some other reason, it will result in changes to both pick-up and drop-off times and may mean that the district needs to temporarily suspend transportation to some families in town and nearest to the school buildings until we have at least 4 drivers. Bus transportation for athletic events will not be possible in some cases for the rest of this week and next due to temporary driver absence. Coaches and sports teams are using the two school passenger vans to assist in transporting student-athletes. If you have questions regarding availability of athletic transportation for specific events, please contact AD Lasak. We are currently exploring all routing options to alleviate the issues resulting from driver shortage, including the possibility of establishing some common multiple rider stops. We have a current employee who is striving to obtain his CDL license so we can hopefully add a driver to our ranks soon. We are also working very hard to find and attract drivers. If you are aware of anyone with the appropriate licensure or the willingness to obtain it at the district's expense, please have them contact Superintendent Travis at mike.travis@mps-up.com regarding part or full-time employment opportunities. Otherwise, general transportation questions can be directed to Bus Driver Coordinator, Rick Stephens at rick.stephens@mps-up.com.

MUNISING PUBLIC SCHOOLS - This is our community's most precious commodity! This year's elementary holiday concert was the best yet in recent memory. Pictured here are the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students singing seasonal tunes. Principal Tweedale will likely share more pics soon. Great job students, Mrs. Gaunt, Mrs. Petersen, and Mather Staff! We have much to be thankful for :-)
