Help support senior student Natalie Holmes Nivens with her trip to to CONA!
“I am Natalie Holmes-Nivens, a name I’ve worked hard to make known—not just locally, but at a conference with over 600 students. Being selected for CONA is an honor I am deeply grateful for. Youth in Government has given me lasting friendships, confidence, and vital skills. I hope to attend CONA to continue growing, and to represent our Upper Peninsula proudly. Like many families in our area, mine cannot cover this trip on our own. I’m asking for your support so I can continue speaking out for mental health—just as I’ve done in our own community.”

Teacher Appreciation Week at Mather Elementary!
This week, we’re celebrating the incredible educators who make Mather Elementary such a special place to learn and grow!
Mather Loves Our Teachers! Join us in celebrating all the great things they do.
Our teachers do so much more than teach—they inspire, encourage, comfort, and guide our children every single day. From early morning planning to late-night grading, their dedication never goes unnoticed. They bring creativity, patience, and heart into every lesson, and we are so thankful for the impact they have on our students' lives.

This year’s Youth in Government conference was a tremendous success. Our students had a rewarding experience and truly thrived in their diverse program areas. We’re proud of their hard work and accomplishments.
Thanks to a grant renewal, we were able to continue offering this opportunity, though with reduced funding, which has increased the overall cost of participation. As a result, we are reaching out to our community for support to help sustain this exceptional program.
We are currently seeking funds to:
Support a student attending the prestigious Conference on National Affairs (CONA)
Send two students to a summer leadership program
Cover unexpected costs from this year’s conference
Any additional funds raised will go directly toward next year’s MYIG program, ensuring continued access for future students.
We’re especially excited to share that Natalie Holmes-Nivens has been selected to represent our school and state at CONA—a high honor awarded to just 25 students per state!

Floating into Learning!
Mrs. Murk’s 1st grade class put their engineering skills to the test last week! On Thursday, students designed and built their own boats. Then on Friday, they tested them to see how much weight each could hold while staying afloat.
This hands-on STEM activity was a great way to explore buoyancy, design thinking, and problem-solving—all while having a lot of fun!
Great job, young engineers!
